Supporting the community to make better decisions about the natural environment with a reliable spatial data delivery system in the cloud

Australia 2nd March 2021, (www.1spatial.com/au) 1Spatial, the global geospatial software and solutions company, is pleased to announce, 1Spatial Australia has been working with government departments to transform its spatial data supply and delivery processes. 1Spatial has been involved in the re-architecture and migration of their spatial data libraries to the cloud to support their strategies to help the community make better decisions about the natural and built environment.

A key driver was to meet increasing public demand for spatial data in raster or point cloud formats through a new data sharing service. This replaced and extended the earlier spatial data service that could only deliver spatial data in traditional vector formats.

Other important drivers included the increased scalability, flexibility and business continuity that the cloud provides. The department began its cloud migration with a new spatial data platform for its rapidly growing raster data in the Amazon cloud. The need to migrate all spatial data to the cloud – including vector-based data - became more urgent after a service outage highlighted the need to move away from on premises services.

Manager of the Spatial Services Department said:

“By configuring workbenches in FME, processes are completely standardised and far more transparent and easier to maintain and manage as a team. You are not reliant on individual developers that have a style of coding or particular frameworks they like to code in. You just need a highly skilled spatial professional and you can add new features rather than having to recode old features and they are self-documented.”

“1Spatial helped us rearchitect our vector data library to meet our objective of a highly available and reliable cloud-based data delivery platform. The scalability and flexibility the cloud offers is critical. You can’t just keep expanding data centre storage like you can in the cloud. That is one of the big benefits as well as the reliability of service and data continuity which the cloud will give you in spades.”

Andrej Mocicka, Country Manager, 1Spatial Australia said:

“1Spatial were involved early in this project, working with the client to help define the scope and advise on the best possible solutions to achieve a new cloud-based data delivery platform. It involved a number of our accredited consultancy team over the life of the project, who brought many unique skills and experiences. As the project lead, 1Spatial worked closely with the client and managed external consultants to ensure the project was delivered to the client’s expectations. I am extremely proud of the fact that 1Spatial has shown that we work collaboratively, understand our clients’ needs and provide the best possible advice and solution using the latest technology available.”
