Minesh Naran, Head of Transport and Infrastructure at 1Spatial recently exhibited at Highways UK 2022. Here's his summary of the event:

What a busy but enjoyable week the 1Spatial team had at the Highways UK 2022 event in Birmingham from 2-3 November. Over the two days, we met so many new and not-so-new friends and customers!

As, arguably, the leading event that brings people together, who are designing, building, and maintaining UK’s roads, I thought the speakers and range of topics covered were on point, stimulating interesting discussions and deliberations.

While the topics of Sustainability, Decarbonising Transport, Asset Management, and Investment are important, for me, selfishly, the presentations on Digital Roads were top of my list. Digital Roads is a broad subject, and like Digital Twins, the structure, format, and delivery can be interpreted differently, depending on who is explaining it.

However, the fundamental building block required is data. And, if a high-quality, usable, Digital Road that leverages rapid technology development, is rolled out, it needs equally high-quality data.

The 1Spatial Stand

I’ll be the first to admit that an explanation of what 1Spatial do as a business isn’t the quickest to grasp, mainly due to the range of solutions we provide. As examples, we deliver quite specific geospatial data checks and fixes, like conflating networks along a highway, through to ensuring data compliance on Enterprise-level solutions like Common Data Environments and Data Hubs.

Ultimately, whether you’re looking to embark on a digital transformation project, improve your data quality, or align your data with specific industry standards, we can help you unlock the value of your data, enabling you to improve the quality of your analytics, predictions and modelling.

1Spatial has been at the forefront of data quality and governance for the past 30 years. We've helped more than 1,000 customers develop strong data foundations, unlocking the value of their data and enabling them to make critical decisions.

We welcomed a range of visitors to our stand, spanning the public and private sector, local and national road operators, software developers, consultants, and traffic data companies. In terms of typical roles, we had boots-on-the-ground Operatives, Highways Engineers, Geospatial Technicians, Data Scientists and all the way to the C-suite level.

We spent a lot of time asking visitors about their roles and listening intently. With this information, we then teased out what data challenge they had, and talked them through the steps (usually with UK and US case studies) on how we can help. You could almost see the light bulbs come on!

Walking around

With a growing Partnership pool, we also spent time visiting existing and prospective Partner Stands. With 1Spatial being appointed onto National Highways Information Technology Commercial Framework [Read more about ITCF], there were lots of talking points on how we can work on opportunities relating to Common Data Environments, Data Hubs, Network Modelling, Digital Twins and wider Geospatial services.

Thanks to the 1Spatial team and all our friends for making the event such a success We can’t wait to be back exhibiting next year!
