A portal for spatial data validation, processing and statistics with no training.
Data Gateway is an extension product for 1Integrate that provides a smart, simple and controlled way to deliver validation rules or data enhancement processes to internal or external users.
Data Gateway’s simple web interface provides easy access for users, enabling them to upload spatial data files and download the results. Data Gateway hides the configuration details of 1Integrate and delivers fast results to users with zero training. It can be used to provide a data validation or processing portal to external or internal end users, and provides statistics and a dashboard of the quality of the submitted data.
The extension is deployed on a Windows machine on the same network as 1Integrate using a simple installer that is used to specify the 1Integrate connection details. Users simply need the URL of the data gateway service along with a username and password to allow them to run validation rules or processing actions on their data.
Data Gateway lets administrators control the set of rules or actions that a user can access. When the user logs in, they simply drag a file of GIS data onto the page, press play and then access the results. The results are available both in a map view and as a downloadable GIS file containing either the validation non-conformances (for validation rules) or the processed data (for enhancement actions).
When users log in, they see the rules to be run and can drag or pick data to upload using formats such as Esri Shapefile, Esri file geodatabase or MapInfo Tab files.
When run, the user can see validation statistics, open a map view of the results or download them as a GIS file.
Administration and control
Administrators can create projects and assign 1Integrate users to these projects. Each project defines the set of validation rules or enhancement actions these users can access.
Projects can be configured with an additional, pre-defined, data store to allow additional information to be loaded when running the process. This could be for additional background data or when the resulting data needs to be written to a different set of output class names.
With each project, administrators have the option of providing users with a downloadable document which describes the schema requirements for the data to be uploaded, descriptive details on the rules or enhancements which will be run and any other project-specific information.
User help online
Online help is available to guide users through the user interface. Users can also download a project-specific document provided by the administrator which allows administrators to describe the requirements for the data, the checks or processing that will be made or any other project-specific information.
Whenever rules are run, the result statistics are stored and a dashboard is available to the administrator showing the data quality statistics for each project. This allows administrators to see how the quality of data from a particular project or organisation changes over time.
Configurable charts are available which can be filtered by project and restricted to a specific time period. The layout of the dashboard is easily configurable by dragging and dropping the controls to allow the administrator to define which charts to display and where. The dashboard configuration can be saved and loaded and charts can be configured to show the following:
- Project performance – Total number of valid or invalid features overall (bar chart)
- Performance trend for each project – Percentage of non-conformances over time (linear graph)
- Submissions over time – How much data and what was the quality of each submission? Valid and invalid feature count per submission over time (bar chart)
- How many times is each rule checked and how often is the rule failed? – Total valid and invalid feature count per rule (bar chart)
- Which rules cause the most problems? Percentage of all failures caused by each rule (pie chart)
Security and user management
Data Gateway can be configured for secure HTTPS access with a security certificate. Only authorised 1Integrate users can access the system and they can only run the rules that have been allocated to them by an administrator. User logins are managed by 1Integrate which means that they can either be defined locally within 1Integrate or using an existing enterprise directory such as Microsoft Active Directory.
Data Gateway is a 1Integrate extension. This means that all the power, performance and scalability of 1Integrate is available via Data Gateway. 1Integrate engines are used to process requests and additional engines can easily be added to 1Integrate to scale up and achieve high performance even under heavy use.
