Profiles

A profile is a set of configurations that the user puts together to associate a generalisation process defined by a flowline with source and target themes. To do this, the user chooses one of the flowline themes and the associated target theme for each of its source themes. For example, the user selects the source theme School, the flowline theme Building, and Important Building as the target theme. The School features will be generalised as defined by the Building subflow, and the result will be put in the Important Building theme.

The profile also offers the user the opportunity to fine tune the process by setting parameters defining how features are generalised. Each subflow associated with a flowline theme exposes the parameters that can be used to control it. It provides default values for each parameter and the user can tune these parameter values for each theme mapped to that flowline theme.

Once a profile is configured, it can be used for different jobs (see Managing Jobs). A job is the application of a profile to a given set of input data (a full dataset or a part of it defined by its geographic extent).

Managing Profiles

Note: You can click Cancel at any point during the process to exit profile creation and return to the Profile Editor page. To go back through the steps to make changes, use the chevrons at the top of the page or click Previous.

  3. Select one or more sources and a target input, then click Next.

  4. Select a flowline, then click Next.

For more information about flowlines, see Managing Flowlines.

Values that are estimated by the system are outlined in green if the system is confident with the estimation, or outlined in red if it is not as confident.

Note: These values have no impact on the system; the system uses the values contained in the mappings on the following page.

  7. To view each mapping expanded with mappings at the subflow level, click View Raw.

The source, flowline, and target theme information is displayed.

  8. In the Parameters page, click a parameter and either enter a value or select Use Default to automatically populate the value field.

Note: Default values can not be modified. If the default value is changed in the Flowline, the profile will use the new value when it is refreshed.

  10. Click the items to display the values that have been configured. Click Save.

The profile is displayed in the list in the Profiles area.
