Eurométropole de Strasbourg, a metropolitan district comprising 500,000 inhabitants and 28 separate towns, has been at the forefront of urban mapping and GIS systems for many years. In 2005, it decided to update its system to improve system interoperability, data-sharing with utility partners and to enable the publication of open data.
Strasbourg selected 1Spatial’s Elyx Suite and created one of the largest and richest databases in France. “The system is envied because we have such a high quality of information. However, in a difficult economic context and facing budgetary restrictions, we must continue our efforts to maintain and intelligently develop this precious asset.”
Michel Rosio, Head of the Geographic Information and Development Department | Eurométropole de Strasbourg
