Meet the team
1Spatial is a team where everyone makes a difference.
From our developers, testers and engineers to our consultants, marketing professionals and senior managers, everyone contributes to our success. But don’t just take our word for it. Here’s some of our people sharing their 1Spatial story.

Andrej Mocicka
Country ManagerAndrej Mocicka
Country ManagerLocation: Melbourne, Australia
What is your work profile and what does your workday look like? Are you working on a particular fun project?
I manage the operation of the 1Spatial Australia office, where we offer software solutions for our customers. Our services include the provision of software, 1Spatial and FME, as well as support, training and consulting services for these products. I have the pleasure of working with a small but dedicated team of highly professional people that ensure that we are successful at what we do. The team and the type of work that we do makes it exciting to go to work each day and provides a never-ending stream of challenges.
I have been involved in the Spatial industry since 1980 and have undertaken a variety of projects and roles from traditional Land Surveying, Data Systems Management, Information Technology Manager, Sales Consultant, Marketing, Business Development, Sales Management and currently the Country Manager for 1Spatial Australia. In this time I have travelled extensively to over 40 countries around the world to every continent except South America.
Fun fact about yourself? I have a wonderful family that keep me grounded which includes my lovely wife Karen and three children, Kurt, Aiden and Elise. As the Surveying and Spatial industry is a passion for me, I have and continue to be heavily involved in the professional bodies that represent this profession for over 30 years. The bodies included the then Institution of Surveyors Australia and now as a Fellow and foundation member of Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute where I am the Chair of the Victorian Regional Committee.
On a totally non-business tangent, I am a choc-a-holic and love a Guinness or three.
When not working what is it that you like doing? I enjoy going for long walks along the foreshore of where I live, arranging and going on holidays with the family, spending time with friends, watching Sci-Fi movies and the F1.

My role is to achieve the sales target. I do that by a combination of direct customer sales and by working with the sales, marketing and services teams to identify and close opportunities.
A fun fact about yourself: as a child I wanted to be an astronaut and one go into space. Instead, I got into GIS which is about using the perspective from space to solve problems on the earth.
When not working, I run for fitness, photograph classic and sports cars, drive my own nearly classic SAAB and catch up with friends and family.
When COVID is over: I will enjoy eating out with friends and planning holiday trips – I miss airports!

Sales ConsultantStarting just before COVID struck, I am the Sales Consultant for 1Spatial Australia, focusing on Local Government and Utilities. I am based in Sydney, working mostly from home and am also currently completing a Masters in GIS and Remote Sensing from Charles Sturt University part time.
My role is to be the first point of contact for 1Spatial enquiries and to provide a friendly ongoing service to our current customers, providing guidance & solutions with whatever they may need. Typically, my day consists of catch ups & meetings with our current customers & prospects, as well as responding to enquiries. I find myself reading up on the new trends & various articles in the spatial industry to broaden my knowledge quite a lot! I would normally be attending conferences and meeting clients on site, however that will just have to wait unfortunately!
Outside of work, I love getting out and playing sport, playing in several casual teams. DJing is a big hobby of mine, as well as finding new nature spots to hike to & fantasising about travelling

What is your work profile and what does your work day look like? Are you working on a particular fun project? I manage the Services team in Australia and typically have involvement in most projects we’re bidding on, delivering or supporting; our team also handles the support channels & delivering training across Australia. Two interesting projects I’m currently working: an integration project with the Australia Bureau of Meteorology that’s dealing with lots of very interesting weather data and also really extending my IT skillset. The platform being deployed processes meteorological data critical to large parts of the Australian economy. Another project I have been involved in for quite a number of years and is an FME process to create power system models for a package called Sincal. This modelling tool is used by distribution network providers to model changes to their network as renewables and other connections are added or changed.
Fun fact about yourself? On a trip in Nepal I got very sick in the Himalayas and had to take a horse ambulance to the hospital.
When not working what is it that you like doing? Enjoy the outdoors here in Australia or overseas- backcountry snowboarding, running, riding & hiking. I have a newborn son who is quickly getting accustomed to being carried, pushed and towed in our local area.

What is your work profile and what does your workday look like? Are you working on a particular fun project?
I am Senior Consultant for 1Spatial Australia. Born and raised in Perth, I completed studies in Geoscience and Spatial science at Curtin University of Technology. I have worked various Mining/Exploration Geology roles specialising in data management activities before becoming a GIS professional managing spatial data, transformation and automating company processes. I have completed projects to cleanse, validate and enrich data within sectors: oil/gas, mining, asset management, environmental management & community engagement.
My workday sees me helping clients review and catalogue existing FME workflows & processes, document enhancements and helping clients upgrade FME server to take advantage of new features. I really enjoy working ETL technologies with ESRI ArcGIS tools, configuring enterprise data stores, deploying web services, adding webhook integrations and mobile apps.
Fun fact about yourself?
I just returned to Australia after living & working in Europe, where we got to visit spectacular lava flow from the Fagradalsfjall volcano and observe other majestic landscapes of Iceland. Day trips typically saw us riding Icelandic horses on black sand beaches, taking a dip in hidden hot springs or simply relaxing in your geothermal heated cabin.
When not working what is it that you like doing?
We love travelling as a family - especially if it involves adventures in nature like going camping and bushwalking. I'm also a huge basketball fan/follower and super proud of our Perth team for being the pinnacle of success for so long, sadly missing the playoffs for first time recently.

What is your work profile and what does your work day look like? Are you working on a particular fun project?
I started out as a Cartographer (map maker) over 30 years ago with the Australian Army, and some might say I’ve developed into an honorary Surveyor, being passionate about data quality and accuracy. I now enjoy learning about how to help others with their spatial problems. I’m currently a Senior Consultant spending most days discussing and developing solutions to data problems with a variety of clients.
Fun fact about yourself?
I once entered a 10km fun run and was leading the race until with about 2km to go took a wrong turn and by the time I realised it was too late and ended up finishing back in the pack. I also represented the Australian Defence Force in Squash, playing teams from England and New Zealand.
When not working what is it that you like doing?
I enjoy tracing my family history through DNA matching. It’s like a never-ending jigsaw puzzle that gets you hooked the more you delve deeper into it. I also like riding my motorbike (but not really during the winter months). A long-time passion of mine is getting out bushwalking in wilderness areas, mostly where there are no trails and I have to navigate my way around. I have planned in detail a walk along the entire Australian Alps Walking Track (about 650km) but have yet to fulfil this dream. I grew up living across the road from the ocean on the northern beaches of Sydney, so whenever I get the chance I like to travel down to the coast. And finally, I love spending as much time as possible with my grown-up family who have now all left the nest.
