Gaining confidence to tackle GDA2020 with Michael Studdert

Last year, I started at 1Spatial and was reaching out to many clients of ours, as well as people in the industry, introducing myself and finding out what interesting projects are coming up. With GDA2020 being head and shoulders one of the most common topics. As it is complex to tackle an opportunity presented itself to run a webinar. We presented what GDA2020 is and what’s involved, why it’s important to make the move, and what to look out for when transforming your data. While it was hugely successful for all involved, one aspect we couldn’t include at the time, which was probably the most important, was use cases, where to learn from others. There’s actually a blog exactly the same as this one about it on our website if you wish to read more.

One of the results I mentioned in the previous blog was that the webinar opened up some user conversation about GDA2020 where there previously wasn’t much publicly, if any. We were keen to harness this in a fashion where organisations can share experiences and ideas about GDA2020. We started with those who took the time to watch our GDA2020 webinar, keen to get their feedback on if they thought it was useful for them. We got more than we bargained for when I started speaking to people who had already made the move to GDA2020. I talked about needing a champion in the previous blog and now realise they have been right in front of me the whole time! I was finding multiple stories of migration use cases and was beginning to see common issues, approaches and software’s across the use cases. This was a great opportunity to collaborate and create a webinar in which we can share these use cases openly. It is great that those who shared their migration experiences are more than happy to jump on board.

The webinar features:

GDA2020 - Latest Case Studies

I’m hoping that viewers start to notice that the issues & experiences across different industries with migrating to GDA2020 are actually pretty similar. Those who are planning the move but haven’t pulled the trigger yet will hopefully have the assurance that their fears aren’t unique to them and gain the confidence to tackle them. It’s great that I’ve started to see evidence of collaboration between Local Councils over the last 6 months or so, but it could be so much stronger. Publicising the conversation from a user perspective will benefit everyone! Now onto dynamic datum…
