At 1Spatial we are paving the way to help State Departments of Transportation (DOT’s) with their data management workflows and processes.  Many DOT’s manage their databases in siloed environments based on types of assets (e.g.  Pavement, Culverts, Bridges, Roads, etc.) and/or types of data (LRS,GIS, CAD, etc.), however innovative DOT’s are realizing that these systems must be integrated for improved resource planning and to meet federal guideline submissions like Highway Performance Monitoring Systems (HPMS) and Model Inventory of Roadway Elements (MIRE).  Rarely if ever are these assets managed by one overarching product due to the unique requirements of the individual assets and their use for various business needs.  Therefore, forward leaning organizations, are implementing workflows and processes to integrate these systems to more seamlessly meet business requirements.

As one example of process improvements, through integration of these silos of data, organizations are looking to maintain multiple assets within one workorder, saving time and money by reducing redundant field visits.  Not an easy task, to say the least.  To accomplish this level of resource planning, the data must be integrated into an end to end project planning system. Many agencies realize that 88% of data integration projects fail due to poor data quality.  Therefore, DOT’s, like Caltrans, are contracting with 1Spatial to help assess the current state of their asset management data, identifying potential quality issues that need to be addressed during or before these integration efforts to enable a smooth and successful transition into an overarching Asset Management System.

Another example of process improvement involves the HPMS reporting required of State DOTs to receive their federal funding. Typically an annual arduous event requiring a great deal of manual tweaking to get the data just right, this process is now being approached by several DOTs in an automated fashion utilizing 1Integrate and the HPMS business rules implemented by 1Spatial for the US Federal Highway’s Administration (FHWA).

This webinar will look at these and other process improvements currently occurring in numerous State DOT’s like West Virginia, Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and CalTrans utilizing 1Spatial’s 1Integrate rules engine for automated data management and improvement.
