Transforming Geospatial Surveys with Greater Speed and Accuracy

The latest release of 1Edit, version 4.1, is making a significant impact across Government, Public Realm, and Mapping organisations by transforming how local and national geospatial surveys are conducted, both in the field and in the office.

Streamlining Field and Office Workflows

Complex, multi-layer Geospatial editing requires a high number of manual steps to ensure a feature is properly digitised and attributed. 1Edit 4.1 introduces dynamic actions that empower users to dramatically reduce manual tasks and enhance overall efficiency. With this update, surveyors and data managers can now automate time-consuming processes and focus on delivering high-quality geospatial data faster than ever before by creating no-code rules for data maintenance tasks.

Proven Time Savings:

  • 70% reduction in time to create new road polygons and centreline features
  • 80% reduction in time to create building polygons, place points, and apply house numbering

Why This Matters

These improvements are more than just efficiency gains, they enable organisations to work smarter and with greater confidence in their data. With 1Edit 4.1, users can:

  • Create and edit features across multiple layers with a single, efficient action
  • Automatically detect and resolve data issues, improving accuracy and compliance
  • Ensure data consistency from the point of collection, reducing downstream corrections

For Government bodies, public sector mapping teams, and survey professionals, this means:

  • significant reduction in time and effort required to deliver high-quality geospatial surveys
  • Data that is compliant by design, needing less post-processing
  • Confidence in sharing data with other systems, stakeholders, and partners at speed

Real world examples for Government Agencies

1. Adding a new line in a road can split the existing network where the new line meets it, automatically create a connector at this point and automatically set the attributes of the new object based on the attributes of the features it is connecting with. Digitising and attribute edits can now be automated by running the actions.

2. Creating a new building polygon requires several changes to the surrounding data: A hole needs to be cut in the underlying surface layers, and a new 'Artificial' polygon needs to be added within that surface for the building to stand on. Then a new building point needs to be added within the building polygon. This can all happen automatically now, simply by capturing a new building and running the actions.

For creating a new building, 1Edit’s actions reduce the editing time from 10 minutes to 2 minutes.

Built on the Power of the 1Spatial Platform

Phil Welch, Senior Product Manager at 1Spatial, shared his insights:

“1Edit 4.1 is revolutionising the way surveyors collect and manage geospatial data through the automation of repetitive tasks. Configurable actions streamline the user’s experience, reducing the time to create and edit GIS data by up to 80%.
This highlights the value of the 1Spatial Platform: using 1Integrate to author validation rules and dynamic actions for 1Edit users, enabling trusted geospatial data to be immediately shared across systems, users, and wider stakeholders.”
